Description
This project explores African American patient experiences with Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs), focusing on how communication within therapy shapes trust, stigma, identity, and resilience. Guided by Communication Theory of Resilience and Transformative Learning Theory, the study examines how participants describe their therapeutic relationships and how therapy participation influences their views of help-seeking, strength, and healing. Findings highlight the importance of culturally responsive communication, identity affirmation, and safe therapeutic spaces in supporting meaningful mental health care experiences.
