Abstract

For the last two decades, the cloud computing ecosystems has become a major defining force for America, because of their unique economic, social and national importance. These ecosystems have now taken their place alongside the nation’s other infrastructure such as the food/agricultural, energy healthcare, and roads/highways. Scientists, engineers, and researchers over the same period have experienced a tremendous growth in the need for resources to that support assorted research. Cloud computing enables these communities to undertake wide-ranging research efforts, while requiring no maintenance, management or significant invest of local resources. The genius of this project examines how create on-ramps for communities to leverage these resources for data-driven research around (1) Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, (2) cloud computing, (3) nanoscience, and (4) cybersecurity/security analytics knowledge. Cloud-Ecosystem in Box (CEB) is designed to employ a multi-disciplinary and framework to engage American scholars with innovative concepts and evidence. The research undertakes to develop and design a cloud infrastructure to fulfill the needs of data-driven research projects for minority-serving institutions. This effort includes the collaboration and partnership with Microsoft Azure, Oracle Academy and Box who donated resources such as storage, computing power, and cloud infrastructure tools to support the research. The immediate impact of this research resides on furnish underrepresented groups nationwide with training on the tools and technologies at CEB.
