Abstract
The research examined the academic progression of students with certain backgrounds enrroled in the Advancement Via Individual Determination program compared to students of similar ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds on state criterion-referenced tests. The research also explored the differences in Advancement Via Individual Determination program and non-AVID students of similar backgrounds in respect to attendance and grade-point average. The research found there were no statistical significance of AVID progra on literacy scale scores and grade-point average. The research found a statistically significance between race and AVID participation.
