Abstract
This thesis examines the role of language and its' power in abusive relationships. The thesis consists of two sections. The first section is a personal narrative. It is composed of chapters focusing on the author's extensive history in abusive relationships. Each chapter reveals a different relationship, including the abusive language used in it. Dialog used in such relationships plays a crucial role throughout the piece. The second section is a theoretical analysis of abuse. The focus on dialog is reiterated in this part. The power of language in abusive relationships plays a key role. Focus is also drawn on the correlation between abusive and codependent relationships.
