Abstract
An examination of literary background and the expression of sexuality in The Dirty Girls Social Club by Alisa Valdes Rodriguez indicates that not only does the writing of this author further the traditions and evolution of Latina and Latin American women's literature, but it also seeks to break barriers with its forthright treatment of sexuality. In her novel, Valdes Rodriguez shows the female character as subject. Her incorporation of pop culture and chick lit themes has brought about the creation of a new "Hybrid Latina Chick Literature" that advances against sexual repression in discourse, literature and society, and that promotes the ideals of post feminism.
