Abstract
In this thesis, I describe the government agencies that were created to develop propaganda advertisements geared to pressure Connecticut women into working in munitions factories during World War I, focusing specifically on Bridgeport. I deconstruct some of the images and rhetorical strategies used to create the “Making Munitions is Woman’s Job” newspaper advertisements, including the “Minute Women of Bridgeport” recruitment effort, both published in the Bridgeport Times and Evening Farmer newspaper.
